The McNair, The McNair, oor Gary McNair/ the red headed playwright performer beyond compare

Along wi’ Brian O’Sullivan in multiple roles, the tale o’ William McGonagall unfolds/ Simon Liddell’s gorgeous score builds the tension/ As they lament the lack of working class represen…tation

It’s a work of great insight and humanity/ No mere Wikipedia hagiography. So raise your glass high to the people’s bard/ Empathy for the one who tried so hard/ For recognition beyond his ability. Poignant touches, and zingers fly free. Drink deep, to Dundee’s poet, still acknowledged /As Scottish as Irn Bru and porridge

It’s not a braying mob to whom McNair performs/ But a crowd, appreciative and warm. Beg! Borrow! Dinnae steal… for a ticket /Thon Joe Douglas’ direction? Ye cannae lick.. that. If you don’t make it along to Oran Mor, It’s Dundee Rep an ‘ Trav next week, bawbag. Ye ken the score.
