Fran Lobo makes music that’s as gritty as concrete, but with delicate green shoots pushing through. Her incredible vocal range is complemented by beats which eschew easy daytime radio -friendly commercialism.

Brave is a beautiful, ferociously danceable statement of intent. Monster is hypnotic and catchy, but utterly uncompromising.
There’s an even more experimental edge on Give Me Something, though, with its layered vocals. It’s not unlike Medulla-era Bjork, where she experimented with choral techniques, and that can only be something to celebrate.

Lobo is very much her own artist, though. Comparisons don’t do her justice. Brave will establish her as a singular talent, pushing against a sea of identikit R & B wannabes. She’s very much the real thing.
