Hurray For the Riff Raff have undergone something of a transformation of late. Eschewing previous Cajun/ World influences for a harder sound, their new album The Navigator is destined to appeal to a wider audience.Produced by Paul Butler who has worked with such luminaries as Michael Kiwanuka and Devendra Barnhart, it was recorded in New York and California.

Frontwoman Alynda Segarra says that the South Bronx is all over the album,  as it is influenced by poetry and punk, but there is a strong sense of her personality here, in terms of searching for  a sense of self, of transitions in life.Rock, ballads, Latin influences- it’s impossible to second-guess what direction they will take. Which is of course, entirely the point.
